Script Preparation/Evaluating
Over the week we mainly worked on editing our scripts. My main group was the child soldier group, but I think everything is under control. During class today, we began planning our 'beginning' sequence, in which all the "street children" are coming around the garbage can fires. This is a really important sequence, because in it, we describe what it's like to be a street child and words to describe street children. It's the beginning of the play, so the audience will have a big impression based on the opening scene. It was very professional and I think that Ms. Tickle and anyone else who planned that opening sequence spent a lot of time planning it out. Rehearsing the play will be a long journey, but the end product will be satifying.

In this double period, our class split up into groups, so that some of us were working on blocking and scripting, while some of the other people were writing on the blog. I worked mainly with my AIDS Orphan group, and we got a fair bit of work done, although it was pretty difficult at times, becuase our main character was alos involved in another group, so alot of the time we had to do work without him. Some of us also helped the child soldier gruop as extras, including me. It was fun, because there was not alot of pressure on any of us, because we were extremely minor characters, that will probably only appear once in the entire part of the child soldier play.

26/02/2008
Today, different groups had different tasks, for some it was to performing the scripts, for others it was to finishing writing their scripts and edit them. However there were some groups that still had to edit their scripts because they did not make any sense and were performed at very low standards. People were not concentrated on their work and most of them were laughing during the rehearsal. Through out the lesson I have been working on my blog entries – reflection of today’s lesson. I posted 2 posts including this one and used the given time proficiently.
Seyidov Kenan Feedback
The script that we were working on last lesson is not ready for a final performance yet. There were many mistakes and most of it did not make sense. Also the script does not have the ending scene; it stops in the middle of performance. Our group edited the script and added different lines that fixed the script. However we did not finish doing it.
I think that we used our time proficiently; we fixed the script, performed the play 4 times and edited some of the lines. It was hard to perform it, so we lost most of the time for changing and adapting the script. However the second period of the lesson we got tired and were not as concentrated as we were at the first period. The reason that problem occurred was the fact that we were tired.
I hope that for the rest of the drama term we are going to use the given time proficiently to fix the script and perform it at the high standards.

Reflection
today in drama, we had practiced our child soldier play today, because we didnt have many extras we could not practice the opening scene so instead we had practiced the other scene which i think that we did quite well because this was the original scene that we had improvised. we still needed to have an authoritive figure so we would be all focused.
Evaluation
Today in Drama we were rehearsing our plays. I'm find it easier writing the script than i do actually acting it. I don't think our group is as focused as it could be. We have our first two seasons but still need to do the last two. I think our biggest problem is listening to each other, because everyone is always talking at the same time. Which makes it really hard to practice because everyone is thinking of different things. But at the end of today's class we decided that Andra could be leader and direct the play because he seemed to have really good ideas and know exactly what he was doing. It is also hard practicing our play because we need a lot of extras, but we kind of worked that out at the end of today's class when everyone got together and we got the extras we needed. We just need some more time to practice and i think our play will be really good.

feedback
I think the script was something that was magical or something from a movie. We had gotten some of the elements of the script from movies. One heavy contributor was Blood Diamond which also includes child soldiers. The script also has elements that make it culturally open and not associated with one culture or country. I think that people might think though that it’s set in Africa because of the names that we used.
I think that we used our time proficiently at most times. We read the script as a group together several times to make sure it was fluent and well made as well as creative. We did have problems though in the 2nd half of the lesson when we were practicing it with action. We had extras that weren’t committed as well as no one really knew who played who and what to do.
In today’s lesson I think that we will be very efficient and well practiced. I think that we will be able to practice it today in the full double lesson without distractions. It will be hard though to make it work because we need extras and all of the extras just fool around the entire time which makes it impossible to make it work.

Evalution Of Last Class
I really liked the script because i thought it really represented our 'Child Soldier' role really well. Some moments there was battle and some really intense moments. Its also not all about shooting which is the part that i really like. I just think that we need to include more instructions on what to do on the script papers, because at some points it was very confusing. I also think that some characters should have more lines because two of the characters only have one line which i dont think is very fair.
I dont think we used our time the best that we could. The group didnt really listen to each other which ment that a lot of people were talking at the same time. We also had difficulties finding 'extra' characters to play the roles that we did not have enough people to act out. We quite a lot of extra people to fill in roles. Next class i hope we get a lot more done and we need to start acting out a lot more of it, and if we dont have enough 'extras' some people will just have to play two roles until we find some more people.

Aids Orphans
At the beginnig of the lesson we had only the beginning of our script typed and printed, so we continued it. It wasnt that easy, because all of us had different opinions what to write. At first we decided that brother leaves his sisters by saying them a sad good-bye. Yusif said that it is not realistic and that he is not going to act. We had to change everything. Finally we decided that brother leaves his siters at night. I think that this way is more realistic than the first one. We tried to act what we wrote but there were lots of people that were distracting us. It is much easier to write script after you do some improvisation. It gives some new ideas.
Our group was really bad organized. Well... It wasnt organized at all. We didnt work on our script a lot. Most of the time we were talking with other groups and helping them or disscussing differnt topics that had nothing to do with AID's orphans. Well we tried to act, but it didnt work very well. There are lots of things that we could have done to improve our organization.

Aids Orphan
Our group made many changes to the original script. Like every other rough copy this script also had mistakes so we started fixing those mistakes and adding in some feeling. Usually when a person just sits in a room and types a script the script comes out to be very boring. But if the group starts improvising and noting some lines that might be useful really helps the whole process of making the script interesting. One of the main things we added to our script was the ending of the scene where the landlord asks for the rent and how the main character has to say goodbye to his little sisters and leave them with his aunt. During then class we did not improvise much but we combined efforts and made our script much more powerful and influential on the audience.
There was a time problem in our group because in the first 45 minutes all of the group was a awake ready to contribute but the last 20 minutes of the class just went to waste and felt like the longest 20 minutes of my life. Another time problem was that we were not organized at all. We spent all our time fixing our scripts but none of the time was taken to improvise except maybe 15 minutes of the double lesson.
This time my group and I have to be a lot more organized and I do not think that there is an actual order we should do things in. But between the double classes we should have maybe a short break to play a game or even go to the bathroom. Then I believe that the class will come back ready to work. The reason why I don’t think that we should do everything in order is because we can improvise and make additions to the script and also block at the same time. Also every group needs a leader. On Tuesdays lesson people were taking responsibilities but this did not mean that they were assigned leaders of the group. These were the people who wrote the scripts and knew what to do and they were getting frustrated having to tell everybody what to do.

Child Soulja Script
The Script that was produced fitted the time frame very well. The whole script lasted around 10-12 minutes. The script was detailed, including important information such as the actions, expressions; it introduced each scene with some background information. However, the script needed to be clearer in terms of the storyline because when it came to the point where the group had to perform the script, some of the people were confused about how the story was supposed to develop.
The script could have been improved in some ways. The script was detailed but the Background info... that was included in the story could have been written more clearly, explaining how the story develops, and how the characters enter the scene.
The Lesson time we had could have been better used. During the double session, we did get some work done. For example we were able to set the amount of extras we needed and who would play as the characters in the script. But, we should have been more organized when we were acting out the script. There wasn't enough focus and we couldn't properly act out the script, we needed to organize the setting and scenes better, and there also weren’t enough actors to fill all the roles. So basically we all needed to get more organized and focused, use our time more wisely.

Script Practice
Our script had a lot to work on and with. we had the idea and some things needed to have more added to them to make them sound better and make more sense. by acting the script it was a lot easier to see what we needed to change and add. we also needed to come up with a better ending part but we didnt get to there.we got some ideas but it was hard to think of more to add that would end the scene before the running away. it think we used out time quite well. we had more then 3 practices of the script and editted the whole thing. we also started typing the edited parts up. sometimes we did get a little distracted but we still did quite a bit of work on the script. Next class i think it would be good if we could do the same thing as we did this time. it was good to read through the script the first time and then try it out. this way it was easier to see what needed to be changed or added to.
Script Feedback
What feedback was there on the script?
What way could we have bettter used our time?
After acting out our script, we recieved some feedback on how to make it better. One such feedback was that our script was not as realistic as it could be. This scene was when our main character was leaving his sisters. We decided that the brother would leave the children without telling them because it seemed more realistic. I think we could have better used our time by doing much more acting rather than talking about the script because then we could have edited the script better. I think we also should have been much more focused and this will help us to achieve more in the next lesson.

Script of AIDS Orphan group
1. The feed back given to me from my group because I was one of the scripters was useful because the script really needed work. We needed to include more because we were really lacking in the full plot because it seemed like we needed more detail on how AIDS affected the childrens life. Also I think we needed an ending because it just kinda ends like after a one of the scenes and there is no closure or any ending really. We did more work on it so that it seemed more complete. This was good for our script.
2. I think our group would have worked more productively if we had been more focused at the end because our group just kinda disintagrated with people going and talking or helping other groups rather than staying focused. Also we need to work more in general because often times we got off track talking about other things. We also sat around not doing anything for a long time which didn't work very well. There are alot of things we could have done for our group to be more productive.

Scripting AIDS Orphan
i think that my group worked well together in our class today. We got alot done, including some needed work on the script. We are almost done wth the script, and should soon be able to practice all of it together. Today we practiced the part that we already had scripted, and added a few improvments to it, and also added in extra characters in order to make sure that every one in our group had a meaningful part. I thought that we also worked quite productivley, doind a lot of work in a short amount of time, and we stayed focused. Next lesson, i will work with my partner on the Abandoned script. We will most likely work on voice projection, then we will finish one of the monolouges and practice the entire play all in one go.
scripting 101
our first use of the scrpit for the orpahn runaway, could have gone much better...
we did well scriptwise and we changed alot of things... like some of the lines and, order of events. thene again we could have accoplished much more if we had cooperatied and not wasted so much time arguing and just mucking about. i think that next week we should focus on the scenes that we didn't manage to work on... the actual run away, and begining of the childs street life. this part has not yet been scripted (and i am not one of the script writers of this scene) but i think that i will work on this part over the weekend, in time for next weeks class.
Tomorow my partner and i will work on the Abandond scene. during the first half we will work on blocking and voise projection. then in the second half we decided to work on scripting the kid's monologs as well as the ending to our scene.
thats it untill next time...

Evaluating the Script
In the 'child soldier' group, just one group member wrote the rough draft of our script. In my opinion, this script was well written and showed many different things that can happen while living as a child soldier. The script included battle scenes, meaningful moments between two or three characters and the script also had emotion. We should add more lines for some characters who don't have and speaking parts at all, and maybe take away some speaking parts from characters who talk the whole time (just to make it fair).
In class we didn't exactly use the time to it's full potential. We got distracted often and had trouble finding others who could fill in as 'extras'. Still, we made some progress today by getting the scripts and casting the main characters (the people in our child soldier group).
We will definitely run through the whole script (reading and acting) next time we get together as a group, I hope.
