Our performance turned out to be quite a success. Everyone performed with great enthusiasm and dedication. Our class was focused, concentrated on their lines and their performance. Our play went through smoothly but more importantly, our play captured the audiences and got their attention. The audience was also able to understand what was going on throughout the scenes and they gave positive feedback on our performance.
I was shocked to see that we were able to run through the whole play without anyone laughing or messing up. The reason I say this is because when we were given the chance to practice our parts and scenes, most of the groups including mine, did not use our time efficiently and wisely. We could not concentrate and thoroughly run through our script. Because of this I improvised many of my lines but I still stuck to the structure of my script. I believe if our group would have used our time more efficiently we would have improved our performance and we would have been a lot more prepared.
However our group, the child soldier group, did extremely well in the end with what we had. The script included so much action, energy and drama. There was a lot of chaos in the script, soldiers were attacking villages and kidnapping children to fight as soldiers themselves. We were trying to show the violence, chaos, and misery of our issue through the script. This action really got the audience’s attention during the beginning of the play.
Drama has been an extremely enjoyable lesson for me this term. One reason for this is because I felt that I have improved during drama this year. I feel a lot more confident about acting then I did before. I learnt many new skills and techniques. During our monologues, I learnt how to improvise and this became useful during our play. We were also given the chance of creating our own scripts and play. We were given the freedom of using our imagination and creativity and we were able to show it to our audiences in our play.
